Regular eye examinations for clear vision and peace of mind
Eye conditions often go undetected. If left untreated, that can result in partial or even complete vision loss. Around 50% of sight loss could be avoided. That is why it is so important to have your eyes tested regularly.
We provide eye examinations for private and NHS patients. Our practice has invested in the equipment necessary to provide retinal photography, optical coherence tomography, visual field testing and much more. You can be confident of receiving a thorough examination.
Every eye test is tailored to address the individual’s specific needs. As well as measuring your sight and ensuring your prescription is up-to-date, the examination can pick up signs of general health conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes, as well as screening and advice for many eye conditions such as age-related macula degeneration, glaucoma and cataracts. We also screen and manage other eye conditions such as blepharitis and dry eyes.
As well as routine eye tests, we carry out specialist occupational examinations, such as DVLA tests for drivers.
What happens during an eye examination?
Your examination generally takes 25-30 minutes:
- A chat about you. The optometrist talks with you about any concerns, your work, lifestyle, hobbies, health and any medication you take.
- Eye health check. We examine the health of your eyes and make sure the best prescription is advised.
- Further tests if needed. For example, visual field testing.
- Discussion of findings. We talk through all the results with you and answer any questions about your vision or eye health.
- Eyewear advice. If you need spectacles, our dispensing optician discusses your requirements and explains clearly the options and benefits of different lenses and frames.
How often should I have an eye test?
At least every two years, and more frequently if you:
- are a child wearing glasses
- have diabetes
- are aged 40 or over and have a family history of glaucoma
- are aged 70 or over
What should I bring to the appointment?
- All spectacles that you use
- Your spectacle prescription if you have it
- A list of medication taken
- Confirmation of benefit entitlement if relevant
If you are unable to attend, we would be grateful for at least 24 hours notice when possible.
